A stampede occurred in a Shiva temple in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh due to electric current. Two people have died in this incident, while some people have been injured. CMO Awadhesh Yadav has confirmed the death of two people. At least 19 others are injured, two of them seriously.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and has directed the district administration to ensure the treatment of the injured.
Regarding this incident, Barabanki DM Shashank Tripathi said, "Devotees were visiting the Avasaneshwar Mahadev temple. There is a banyan tree in the temple premises in which many monkeys live. The wire broke due to the monkey jumping on the electric wire and some people got electric shock due to electric current in the shed."
The DM said, "Two people are serious, they have been referred to the district hospital. The rest of the people are being treated at CSC Haidergarh and CSC Trivediganj. The condition of the rest of the people is normal."
When asked about the number of injured, DM Shashank Tripathi said, "A total of 19 people had reached the CSC. Two of them are in critical condition, the rest are in normal condition."
An eyewitness said that this incident happened due to a wire being cut. His nephew was also injured. Devotees had gathered at Avasaneshwar Mahadev temple to worship on the third Monday of Sawan.
On Sunday itself, there was a stampede due to heavy crowd at the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. 7 people have died in this accident and 25 to 30 people have been injured. According to the Divisional Commissioner, the stampede occurred at the Mansa Devi temple due to the large crowd.
