Bhopal: For the first time in Madhya Pradesh: Mental diseases will be treated with help of AI at BMHRC; MoU signed with Orange Neurosciences
Now mental patients will be examined and treated with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Center (BMHRC). For this, Orange Neurosciences, a Canadian company working in the field of AI, and BMHRC have signed an agreement.
On Thursday, BMHRC's Director-in-Charge Dr. Manisha Shrivastava and Orange Neurosciences' President Dr. Vinay Singh signed the MoU. Under the agreement, BMHRC and Orange Neurosciences will also conduct research in the field of mental illness with the help of these AI tools. BMHRC has become the first and only institute in Madhya Pradesh, where mental patients will be examined and treated with the help of AI.
Director-in-Charge Dr. Manisha Shrivastava said that till now traditional methods like psychotherapy, filling forms, counseling etc. are used for the identification and treatment of mental patients all over the world. Through this process, many times it takes a lot of time to identify the mental illness or problem of the patient. The patient's frequent visits to the hospital are also a challenge in itself.
AI tools help in understanding the patient's disease
Now such AI tools or web-based platforms have been developed, which help in understanding the patient's disease. These tools are like video games. Based on the patient's symptoms, the patient is allowed to use the application of the relevant AI tools. During this, this application records every activity of the patient.
After the session is completed, this application analyzes the patient's activity and gives its results accordingly. In this way, once the patient's disease is identified, other AI-based tools help in the treatment of the patient through similar activities.
Dr. Srivastava said that Orange Neurosciences has also developed such web-based platforms, which are being used at selected places in the country. Orange Neurosciences will allow BMHRC to use these AI tools and applications free of cost.
All the psychiatrists and clinical psychologists of the hospital will be able to use it. With the help of these AI tools, many diseases like depression, attention deficit hyper disorder, autism, dyslexia etc. can be treated.

Digital Cognitive Therapy Center will be built
Clinical psychologist in the Psychiatry Department Dr. Rupesh Ranjan said that a separate Digital Cognitive Therapy Center is being built in the department for all the work. There patients will be examined and treated. Orange Neurosciences will help in setting up this center and train all the doctors and other staff of the department. However, there will be no no need to wait for the construction of this center to use these AI tools. With the available resources, treatment of patients will be started with these AI tools.
