Jammu Kashmir: Four people died due to cloudburst in Kathua
At least four people died and several others were injured after a cloudburst hit parts of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, officials said.
The incident, accompanied by heavy overnight rain, led to flash flooding that submerged roads, damaged infrastructure and cut off a village, affecting relief and rescue operations.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has posted on Instagram and informed that four people have lost their lives in the cloudburst incident in Kathua.
He has written on social media, "Four people have died in the accident that happened after cloudburst in Janglot area. This has also damaged the railway track and national highway."
He has written, "After receiving the information, I have spoken to SSP Kathua Shobhit Saxena. Civil administration, army and paramilitary forces have immediately swung into action."
Dr Jitendra Singh has expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and said that the situation is being constantly monitored.
According to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the deaths and the damage caused by landslides in parts of Kathua, including Jodh Khad and Juthana.
“Chief Minister has expressed grief over the tragic loss of lives and damage caused by landslides in several parts of District Kathua, including Jodh Khad and Juthana, which claimed 4 lives and left many injured. He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, and assured all necessary assistance,” the statement said.
Earlier on August 14, bodies of 60 people were found in the accident that occurred after a cloudburst in Chashoti area of Kishtwar.
