Well-known character actor of Hindi and Marathi films, Achyut Poddar passed away on Monday night at Jupiter Hospital in Thane district adjoining Mumbai.

A hospital source has confirmed the death of Achyut Potdar and told that he was admitted to the ICU of the hospital on Monday in critical condition.

Achyut Potdar, who acted in many plays, Hindi-Marathi TV serials and films, was 91 years old. His last rites will be performed in Thane today on Tuesday.

Achyut Potdar, who entered the acting world in the 80s, worked in many big Hindi films like Aakrosh, Ardh Satya, Tezaab, Parinda, Rangeela, Lage Raho Munnabhai and 3 Idiots.

Apart from this, he also acted in more than 90 TV serials and more than 25 plays.

Potdar featured in more than 125 films 

Over an illustrious career that spanned decades, Potdar featured in more than 125 films across Hindi and Marathi cinema. His filmography boasts acclaimed titles such as 'Aakrosh', 'Ardh Satya', 'Tezaab', and 'Parinda'. Yet it was his role in '3 Idiots' that cemented his place in pop culture, with his now-iconic line, "Arey kehna kya chahte ho", still fondly recalled by audiences.

Potdar's contribution, however, extended far beyond the big screen. He made his mark on Indian television with shows like 'Wagle Ki Duniya' and 'Bharat Ki Khoj', earning admiration for his effortless versatility. Moving seamlessly between stage, television, and cinema, he carved a niche as a performer who could lend authenticity to every role he undertook.

Was born in Jabalpur 

Born in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Achyut Potdar was a teacher in Rewa in the early days of his career. Then in 1962, he joined the army under the 'Emergency Commission'.

After this, he worked in a government oil company and then started acting on stage with theater artist Satyadev Dubey.

After retiring from the post of Captain in the Army in 1967, Achyuta Potdar worked in a senior position in Indian Oil Corporation until his retirement.

During this time, he also started taking interest in acting and soon started acting in Hindi-Marathi films and TV shows and established his own unique identity in this field.
