Monorail stuck in Mumbai, efforts to evacuate passengers continue
Amid heavy rains, life is affected in many districts of Maharashtra including Mumbai.
Meanwhile, a monorail got stuck midway between Chembur and Bhakti Park in Mumbai due to technical fault.
Mumbai Fire Brigade has started rescue work. Rescue operation is underway to evacuate the passengers safely. A medical team is also present on the spot.
Besides, nearby hospitals have been kept on alert so that help can be provided in any emergency.
Incident happened due to overloading?
It is believed that this incident happened due to overloading. However, there is no official statement on the cause of the incident yet. Today, due to rain, the local train is closed in Mumbai. Due to this, the monorail people had to give tickets to more people and due to overloading, the monorail was closed.
150 people are still trapped in the train
According to media reports, the monorail hung in the air due to the disruption in power supply. The passengers were trapped inside the train. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, it was decided to remove the passengers trapped inside with the help of a crane. At present, the rescue operation is going on in full swing. According to BMC, about 150 people are still trapped in the train, whose evacuation work is going on.
Mumbai Metro administration said that there was a minor problem in the power supply of a monorail train near Mysore Colony station. Our operations and maintenance teams are present at the spot and are working to fix it as soon as possible.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said, "All agencies like MMRDA, fire brigade and Municipal Corporation have reached there. The safety of all the passengers is being given top priority. So no one needs to worry or panic."
He said, "All the passengers will be evacuated safely. I request everyone to maintain patience. I am in touch with the MMRDA commissioner, municipal commissioner, police and all the agencies. Why this incident happened will also be investigated."
