Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav has said that journalism has greater responsibility to uphold truth and guide the society. He said, it is the responsibility of students pursuing journalism to remain alert, active, and dedicated to upholding ethical values and strengthen democracy through information dissemination. He added that the true spirit of journalism is to pursue truth.
The Chief Minister was addressing ‘Abhyuday 2025’, the orientation and inaugural program for the 2025–26 academic session of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism, Bhopal. Dr. Yadav lit the ceremonial lamp amid Vedic chants to inaugurate the program.
Celebrating the Glorious Legacy of Pt. Makhanlal Chaturvedi
CM Mohan Yadav said that in journalism, ‘Abhyuday’ signifies not merely a beginning, but an ongoing journey of awareness, pursuit of truth, and the responsibility to guide society. CM Dr. Yadav expressed pride that Pt. Makhanlal Chaturvedi was born in Babai (Madhya Pradesh) and made Khandwa his Karmabhoomi.
Through journalism, Pt. Chaturvedi not only united society against British oppression but also played a vital role in social causes and spearheaded the revival of the Hindi language. CM assured that the university would continue to highlight the glorious facets of Pt. Chaturvedi’s life.
Respect for Indian Knowledge and Cultural Traditions
The CM said that in Indian tradition, the Guru is considered one who leads from darkness to light. To uphold this respect, the state has replaced the word Vice Chancellor with ‘Kulguru’ in universities, symbolising the highest place accorded to teachers.
Whenever the nation needed, the youth rose to the occasion: Kumar Vishwas
Renowned poet Dr. Kumar Vishwas, addressing the students, said, “History is witness that whenever the nation needed, the youth rose to the occasion”.
Referring to Chanakya’s art of communication, Dr. Vishwas said that communication rooted in respect for common people and diverse cultures is the most effective. He advised journalism students to be clear about their goals, excel in their discipline and uphold neutrality and honesty as their highest priorities. He also emphasised the importance of print media experience, suggesting that young journalists should work for at least three years to improve their language, deepen their understanding of journalism and refine their news writing skills.
Chief Minister Plants ‘Krishna-Vata’ Sapling
University Kulguru Vijay Manohar Tiwari presented the outline of the ‘Abhyuday’ program and detailed the university’s new priorities and innovations. The event was attended by Minister of State for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare (Independent Charge) Krishna Gaur, Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai, senior professors and a large number of students.
CM unveils the statue of Makhanlal Chaturvedi
CM Mohan Yadav unveiled the statue of Pt. Makhanlal Chaturvedi. He also visited the exhibition “100 Years: 100 Headlines”, showcasing front-page newspaper coverage of landmark national events before and after Independence. The CM was presented with a portrait of the Karmaveer newspaper, literary works developed by the university, and tribal artwork. Poet Kumar Vishwas and Principal Secretary (Public Relations) Dr. Sudam Khade also participated in the plantation drive.
