Uttarakhand: Cloudburst in Rudraprayag and Chamoli, eight people buried under debris after landslide


A destructive cloudburst struck Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts late Thursday night, leaving several families trapped and many injured as debris overwhelmed homes and livestock. Emergency rescue teams, coordinated by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, have launched intense operations in the affected Bareth Dungar Tok area of Rudraprayag and Deval in Chamoli amidst severe road closures and ongoing heavy rains.

The administration says that relief and rescue work is being carried out on a war footing in the affected areas.

According to the Rudraprayag district administration, many places in the Basukedaar area of ​​the district have been affected due to heavy rains at night. Partial damage to 4 to 5 houses has been confirmed in Taljaman area. The affected families have been shifted to the nearest primary school.

At the same time, eight people are feared to be buried under the debris in Chenagadh area. Teams of SDRF, DDRF and local administration have reached the spot and are carrying out rescue operations. There is also news of the death of a woman in Jakholi area.

Eight feared buried in Chenagadh area

A residential building was hit by debris due to a landslide in Dewal block of Chamoli district on Thursday night.

Deputy District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar Bhatt said, "Two people are missing, two are injured and 15 to 20 cattle are feared to be trapped under the debris."

CM holds emergency meeting

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on Twitter that he has held an emergency meeting regarding disaster management in which "the situation arising due to heavy rains in Badeth Dungar Tok of Tehsil Basukedaar area of ​​​​Rudraprayag, Dewal area of ​​​​Chamoli district and Nainital, Bageshwar, Tehri was reviewed."

He wrote that the officials have been instructed to carry out relief and rescue work on a war footing.
