Maharashtra: Manoj Jarange Patil begins indefinite fast in Mumbai for Maratha reservation, what Mahayuti govt said?
The movement has started again in Maharashtra seeking reservation for the Maratha community in the OBC category.
Maratha movement leader Manoj Jarange Patil has started a fast unto death for Maratha reservation at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on Friday.
Amid the rain, a large number of people from the Maratha community from across the state have reached Azad Maidan.
A huge crowd of people joining the movement was seen at CSMT railway station. There was also a traffic jam on the roads of South Mumbai since morning.
Manoj Jarange Patil warned that we will not leave Mumbai until our demands are met. Even if the government fires bullets, we will not back down. Even if we are put in jail, we will continue our hunger strike there.
10 percent reservation has already been given to Marathas: Govt
Now it remains to be seen how the Maharashtra government deals with Jarange's challenge. Jarange said that today the Marathas have blocked Mumbai. Since the government has allowed the protest, we will also cooperate with the police and the government.
On the other hand, the Mahayuti government of Maharashtra has said that 10 percent reservation has already been given to Marathas. As per the rules, reservation cannot be given to a community by reducing the reservation of another category.
Manoj Jarange Patil has said that the fast unto death will continue until the government gives reservation to the OBC category.
