Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL).

On Wednesday, Ashwin wrote on X, "Today is a special day and so is the beginning. It is said that with every end there is a new beginning. My time as an IPL cricketer is ending today, but now my journey begins as I explore the possibilities of the game in a new form in different leagues."

Ashwin said, "I thank all the franchises for the wonderful memories and relationships over the years."

Ashwin is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the IPL. He has taken 187 wickets at an economy rate of 7.2.

Ashwin was first a part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL and his last team was also CSK.

Apart from this, he played for Rising Pune Supergiant, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals and also captained Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).

The star Indian player Ravichandran Ashwin made his debut in 2009 with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Ashwin played 221 matches for them and took 187 wickets with an impressive economy of 7.20. Chennai purchased him in 2008 for a total amount of 12 lakhs.

In the season 2022-24, Ravichandran Ashwin played for Rajasthan Royals, who were the winners of the very first Indian Premier League (IPL) 2008 season. Royals purchased Ashwin for ₹ 5 crores. However, he played his last season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). They purchased him for ₹9.75 crore.
