A violent clash at the Srinagar airport has led to a police case being filed against an Army officer and a SpiceJet staffer. Army officer allegedly assaulted SpiceJet employees over a dispute concerning excess cabin luggage. The accused officer has been charged with ‘murderous assault’ for attacking SpiceJet staff.

The incident, which occurred on July 26, during the boarding of SpiceJet flight SG-386 bound for Delhi, resulted in serious injuries to four SpiceJet employees. One of them suffered a spinal fracture while another suffered severe jaw injuries.

A video of Srinagar airport is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In this video, a person is seen fighting with some people at the airport.

Airline company SpiceJet and the Indian Army have issued statements on this matter.

According to the airline, this incident took place on 26 July 2025 and this person is a senior army officer.

SpiceJet said the incident began when the Army officer,  identified as Ritesh Kumar Singh, attempted to board the Delhi-bound flight with two pieces of cabin luggage weighing a total of 16 kilograms. Under Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regulations, cabin luggage exceeding 7 kilograms incurs additional charges for domestic flights.

SpiceJet says that the officer assaulted four SpiceJet employees at the boarding gate of flight SG-386 going from Srinagar to Delhi.

“One SpiceJet employee collapsed unconscious on the floor but the passenger continued kicking and hitting the fainted employee. Another staff member suffered bleeding from the nose and mouth after receiving a forceful kick to the jaw while bending down to assist the colleague who had fainted. The injured employees were rushed to hospital and remain under treatment for the grievous injuries sustained,” read the statement issued by SpiceJet.

The airline has written a letter to the Civil Aviation Ministry informing about the attack on its employees and demanding appropriate action.

The Indian Army also issued a statement on this matter and said, "The incident of alleged dispute between an Army jawan and airline staff at Srinagar Airport on 26 July 2025 has come to the notice of the Indian Army."

The statement further said, "The Indian Army is committed to maintaining the highest standards of discipline and conduct and takes all such allegations seriously. Full cooperation is being given to the concerned authorities in the investigation of this matter."
