Bhopal comes alive with colors of Kerala: Grand Onam celebrations by IGRMS and United Malayali Association enchant all

Bhopal: Under the joint aegis of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Shyamala Hills, Bhopal and United Malayali Association (UMA), the traditional Onam festival was organized in the Bhadrakali Ambalam Temple, Chundanvallam (Snake Boat) and Sarpakavu (Sacred Grove) areas under the Coastal Village Exhibition Complex of the Museum on Sunday.

Onam is the most popular festival of Kerala, which symbolizes the memory and arrival of the great king Mahabali. On this occasion, traditional worship was performed in the Sarpakavu of the Museum premises. 

The rituals were performed according to the respective community and the deity of the Kavu. During the worship, the traditional musical instrument “Chendavelam” was played, which made the whole atmosphere sacred and energetic.

After the worship was completed, Prasad was distributed to all the people present.

On this occasion, President of United Malayalee Association, O. D. Joseph, Anil Kumar K, Linu Varghese, Jaychandran V and members of AIMA (All India Malayalee Association) were specially present.

Along with this, Director of Museum, Prof. Dr. Amitabh Pandey, Officer-in-Charge of Open Air Exhibition located in Aavriti Campus, Rashmi Shukla, Rajesh Gautam, Deepak Chaudhary, Dr. S. K. Pandey, Dr. Soma Kiro, Hemant Bahadur Singh Parihar, T. G. Sajeev, Garima Dubey, D. D. Senapati, Umesh Jharia, PGDM students, natives of Kerala living in Bhopal and a large number of spectators witnessed this event.

On this occasion, Director Prof. Dr. Amitabh Pandey said, “Onam festival is a symbol of collectivity, joy and cultural diversity. The participation of everyone in this traditional festival organized in the museum made it more meaningful and unforgettable.”
