Various activities at Bhopal's Van Vihar mark International Vulture Awareness Day-2025

On the occasion of International Vulture Awareness Day-2025, various public awareness activities were organized in collaboration with WWF-India, BNHS at Van Vihar National Park, Bhopal on Saturday at Vihar Gallery located in Van Vihar. 

Its purpose was to make the general public aware about the important role of vultures in the ecosystem and the urgent need for their conservation. International Vulture Day is celebrated every year on the first Saturday of September.

On the occasion of International 'Vulture Day', a one-day workshop on Vulture Conservation was held at Vihar Gallery located in Van Vihar National Park, in which more than 30 participants participated. Information on vulture conservation and conservation was provided by subject experts on not using diclofenac drug in the treatment of cows and other topics. 

Assistant Director Van Vihar National Park, Bhopal Dr. Ruhi Haq highlighted the objectives of the workshop. Bhopal Birds' Mohd. Khaliq, Dr. Sangeeta Rajgir and Assistant Veterinarian Van Vihar Dr. Hamza Nadeem Farooqui gave information about vulture species and their importance and the important role of vultures in the ecosystem and the harm caused by the use of diclofenac drug in the treatment of cows through presentation. The Assistant Director discussed with the participants for the conservation of vultures.

State level art competition will be held on the topic 'Panni se Pakshi'

In the program, conservation was linked to sustainable development and the danger from plastic pollution to the health of vultures was highlighted. The Forest Department also announced a state-level art competition "Panni se Pakshi". In the competition, students and artists have been invited to make models of vultures from plastic waste, which will be displayed during Wildlife Week-2025.

Poster making competition for students

A poster making competition was organized for graduate students of various colleges in the workshop, the topic of which was "Ecological services of vultures". A useful field guide titled “Vultures of Madhya Pradesh” was also launched, which will help the forest staff working across the state in identifying and monitoring vulture species.

Drawing competition on Vulture theme

In the same series, a drawing competition was organized for school children on the theme of Vulture by BNHS. The winners (first, second and third) of the competition were awarded. 

An “on the spot quiz” on the theme of Vulture was also organized by Samsung, Manager, Vulture Conservation Center, Kerwa, Bhopal and Sankalp Kisnani, Bhopal with the tourists who visited the forest resort, in which questions related to vultures were asked to the tourists and those who gave the right answers were also awarded. In the workshop, awareness was created by giving information about the conservation and protection of vultures.

On this occasion, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Shubhranjan Sen, Chief Wildlife Conservator R. Srinivas Murthy, former Director Mrs. Sangeeta Saxena, Dr. Swati Moghe, Director, WWF, Bhopal and Assistant Director Van Vihar Dr. Ruhi Haq were present.
