The Election Commission of India (ECI) is considering to conduct Special Intensive Revision i.e. SIR or voter list verification across the country. A conference will be held in Delhi on September 10 regarding this.

Officials said that the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all the states will attend the meeting. In this, the strategy for conducting SIR across the country will be discussed. This will be the third meeting after Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar took office in February.

The Election Commission has said that after Bihar, the process of voter list verification may be implemented across the country. It will start at the end of the year, so that the voter list can be updated before the assembly elections of Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal in 2026.

The Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commissioners, and senior EC officials will participate in the Delhi conference. In its June 24 order regarding Bihar, the poll body had already indicated that SIR would eventually be implemented nationwide.
