PM Modi condoles loss of lives in Afghanistan earthquake, India sends relief material
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives due to the earthquake in Afghanistan.
Modi said in post on X:
“Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the earthquake in Afghanistan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families in this difficult hour, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured. India stands ready to provide all possible humanitarian aid and relief to those affected.”
India has also started sending relief material to earthquake-affected Afghanistan.
Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar wrote in a post on X, “I spoke to Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi today. We are saddened by the lives lost in the earthquake.”
India has sent 1000 family tents to Kabul and 15 tonnes of food grains
He informed that India has sent 1000 family tents to Kabul. 15 tonnes of food grains are being sent to Kunar from India. India will send more relief material to Afghanistan on Tuesday.
Jaishankar wrote, "We wish the injured a speedy recovery. India stands with Afghanistan in this difficult time."
So far, more than 800 people have been reported dead in the 6.3 magnitude earthquake in the eastern part of Afghanistan. More than 2,000 people have been injured.
The tremors of the earthquake were also felt in the capital Kabul and neighboring country Pakistan. The most damage has been done in the mountainous areas.
Entire villages were destroyed in Nurgal and Kunar. Relief and rescue operations are going on in the earthquake affected areas.
Taliban's chief spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement that a special committee has been formed to help the earthquake victims.
Mujahid said that steps have been taken to evacuate the victims and provide food and other essential materials to the affected people.
