Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Manipur for the first time after ethnic violence broke out in the state in the year 2023.

During this, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of several development projects costing more than Rs 7 thousand crore in Churachandpur.

Churachandpur is the same district which was most affected by the violence, where more than 250 people lost their lives and thousands of people were displaced.

PM Modi said whether it is the freedom movement or nation-building, the people of Mizoram have always come forward to contribute. This is a historic day for the nation, particularly for the people of Mizoram.

Modi said from today, Aizawl will be on India's railway map. A few years ago, I had the opportunity of laying the foundation stone for the Aizawl railway line. And today, we proudly dedicate it to the people. Overcoming many challenges, including difficult terrain, this Bairabi Sairang railway line has become a reality. The skills of our engineers and the spirit of our workers made this possible.

Not just a railway connection, but it is a life-line of transformation

PM said our hearts have always been directly connected with each other. Now, for the first time, Sairang in Mizoram will be connected directly with Delhi by the Rajdhani Express. This is not just a railway connection, but it is a life-line of transformation. It will revolutionize the lives and livelihoods of the people of Mizoram. Farmers and businesses of Mizoram can reach more markets across the nation. This will also create employment opportunities in tourism, transport and hospitality sectors.

North East neglected due to vote-bank politics

PM said for a long time, some political parties in our country practiced vote-bank politics. Their focus was always on places which had more votes and seats. The entire North East, including states like Mizoram, suffered greatly because of this attitude. But our approach is very different. Those who were earlier neglected are at the forefront now. North East is becoming the growth engine of India.

Many states of the North East have been put on the rail map of India

PM said over the years, many states of the North East have been put on the rail map of India for the first time. Mizoram has a major role in both our Act East Policy and the emerging North East Economic Corridor. Mizoram is blessed with talented youth. Our work is to empower them. Our government has already started 11 Eklavya Residential Schools here. Work is going to start at 6 more schools. Our North East is also becoming a major hub for start-ups.

The region of Manipur is a land of hope and expectation

In his nearly 20-minute speech, the PM said, "India is soon going to become the third largest economy in the world and it is my endeavor to ensure that its benefits reach every corner of the country."

PM talked about the violence and said, "The region of Manipur is a land of hope and expectations, but unfortunately violence has engulfed it. A little while ago I met the affected people who are living in the camps and I can say that a new dawn of hope and confidence is knocking on the door of Manipur. Establishment of peace is very important for development."

We are aiming to make Manipur a symbol of peace, prosperity

Modi concluded his speech by saying, "We are aiming to make Manipur a symbol of peace, prosperity and development." He said, "I assure you that for the development of Manipur, for settling the displaced people at a proper place, for establishing peace, the Government of India will continue to support the Manipur government here."

This is Prime Minister Modi's first visit to Manipur after ethnic violence broke out in May 2023. The Opposition has been constantly raising questions as to why the Prime Minister did not visit Manipur for so long. The state has been going through turmoil and political deadlock for the last 28 months.
