What PM Narendra Modi said after Trump's statement on India-US trade agreement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reacted to the statement of US President Donald Trump in which Trump has expressed hope that the talks on the trade agreement between India and America will be successful.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reaffirmed the strength of India-US relations and expressed confidence in the ongoing trade negotiations between the two nations. Modi said both nations will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people.

Responding to a post by President of the US on X, PM Modi said:

“India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership. Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump. We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had said that talks will take place between him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming weeks for a trade agreement between India and the US.

Trump posted on Truth Social, "I am happy to report that India and the US are continuing talks to remove trade barriers."

He said, "I look forward to talking to my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the coming weeks. I am confident that there will be no difficulty in reaching a successful outcome for both our great countries."

Even after several rounds of talks between India and the US, a trade agreement has not been reached. In early August, Trump imposed a total tariff of 50 percent on India, which is currently in force.
