ICC ODI rankings: Rohit Sharma becomes world's number-1 first time, breaks this record of Sachin Tendulkar, Shubman Gill slips to third


Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma has become the world's number-1 ODI batsman for the first time in his career. The ICC released the latest rankings on Wednesday. Previously, Shubman Gill held the number-one spot. Rohit has reached the top spot with 781 rating points.

At 38 years and 182 days old, Rohit has also become the oldest number-one batsman in the ODI rankings, breaking the record held by Sachin Tendulkar (38 years and 73 days).

Rohit scored a century in the final match of the ODI series against Australia, leading India to victory. Rohit scored 202 runs at an average of 101 in the ODI series against Australia.

He gained two spots in the ODI rankings after being named Player of the Series in the recent three-match ODI series against Australia.

Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zadran is in second place with 764 points. Shubman Gill has moved up from first to third place with 745 points.

Rohit is fifth Indian to reach the top spot in ODI

Rohit is the fifth Indian to reach the top spot in ODIs. Rohit Sharma is the fifth Indian batsman to achieve the number-one position in the ODI rankings. Before Rohit, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill have reached the top.

Kohli drops one spot 

Virat Kohli scored 74 runs in the third ODI, but despite this, he has dropped one spot. He is now in sixth place with 725 rating points. Shreyas Iyer scored a half-century for India in the second ODI played at the Adelaide Oval and has moved up one place (from 10th to 9th).
