Inside Story of NDA's Seat-Sharing Deal: Why Did Chirag Get 29 Seats, and Why Are Manjhi and Kushwaha Also Happy?

NDA Seat Sharing Formula: Following the announcement of the Bihar Assembly elections-2025, the long-running discussion regarding seat sharing within the NDA finally concluded on Sunday. All NDA constituents agreed on the final seat-sharing formula on Sunday, following which the party-wise seat distribution has been announced.

Union Minister and Bihar Election Incharge Dharmendra Pradhan officially announced this formula in a post on the social media platform "X." Pradhan stated that the BJP and JDU have each received 101 seats in the NDA. This means that the JDU and BJP will once again contest the elections on equal footing in Bihar politics.

NDA has adopted a new formula

The NDA has adopted a new formula for its allies, assigning six assembly seats to one MP. Chirag Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party (R) has received 29 seats for five MPs. Upendra Kushwaha's RLSP has been allocated six seats for oe MP, and Jitan Ram Manjhi's HAM Party has also been allocated six seats for one MP.

It is noteworthy that Chirag Paswan's party won five seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, demonstrating a 100% strike rate. Manjhi also won one seat in the Lok Sabha elections, and Kushwaha also won his seat.

JDU has become equal to BJP

In the 2025 assembly elections, the JDU has become equal and is no longer in the role of a "big brother." In the 2020 elections, the JDU contested 115 seats and won 43. This time, the party has decided to reduce its number by 14 to 101. The JDU has taken this step to leave room for its allies and maintain the unity of the alliance.

In the 2020 elections, the BJP contested 110 seats and won 78. In the 2025 assembly elections, the party will contest 101 seats, leaving 9 for its allies. Political analysts believe the BJP has made this decision to strengthen alliance stability and electoral coordination.
