MP: Campaign to capture blackbucks using helicopters and boma technology begin in Shajapur; first such campaign in the country
On the instructions of Madhya Pradesh CM Dr. Mohan Yadav, a campaign to capture blackbucks using helicopters and boma technology has been launched in Shajapur district by a team from Conservation Solutions of South Africa and the MP Forest Department to protect crops from wildlife in Madhya Pradesh, especially in the revenue areas of western Madhya Pradesh.
Chief Conservator of Forests, Ujjain, M.R. Baghel, informed that 34 blackbucks were captured from farmers' fields in Imlikheda village of Kalapipal tehsil in Shajapur district and released into the forest of Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary. This will reduce crop losses for farmers.
This campaign has been launched using this technology for the first time in the country. The campaign will continue in Shajapur district until November 5. He explained that this technique has not harmed any wildlife. The district aims to capture 400 blackbucks and 100 nilgai.
The Boma technique was developed in South Africa and allows wildlife to be safely relocated without tranquilizing them. The process begins with a helicopter, which slowly moves the animals toward a larger enclosure.
The Boma technique is an African wildlife management technique in which animals are trapped in a central enclosure through a funnel-shaped fence. This funnel, covered with grass and green netting to make it invisible to the animals, allows the animals to be loaded onto a vehicle and relocated.
