Relief for Rahul Gandhi in defamation case: Guwahati High Court sets aside lower court order

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has received a major relief in a defamation case

The Guwahati High Court has set aside a lower court order allowing additional witnesses to be called in a nine-year-old criminal defamation case against him.

The case was filed by RSS worker Anjan Kumar Bora.

A single bench of Justice Arun Dev Chaudhary, while hearing a criminal revision petition, set aside the order of the Additional Sessions Judge of Kamrup Metropolitan.

The lower court had allowed additional witnesses to be called during the trial, which was challenged by Rahul Gandhi.

The statements of six witnesses had already been recorded in the case.

In March 2023, the trial court magistrate refused to allow the listing of three additional witnesses, but the sessions court later ordered a review.

Following this High Court decision, the trial will now proceed based on the testimonies already recorded.
