Tiger cubs found in tree cavity in MP's Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve taken to Tala, may be trained to live in wild

Umaria: Two tiger cubs rescued from a fallen tree cavity in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh will now be trained to live in the wild.

Patrolling staff at Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve rescued two orphaned tiger cubs in Panpatha range on Friday. The cubs, believed to be offspring of the tigress found dead last week, were brought safely to the Tala range after a coordinated search operation.

Forest sources said a patrolling team first spotted one cub trying to hide inside a hollow tree. A search of the surrounding area revealed no sign of an adult tiger.

After consulting senior officials, the team launched a rescue operation, during which another cub was found. Both cubs were immediately shifted for medical observation.

These two tiger cubs have been taken to Tala. Both are approximately 4 to 5 months old. They will be taught how a wild tiger lives and hunts in the wild.

Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve Director Anupam Sahay stated that a search revealed no signs of a male or female tiger. Both tiger cubs have been safely transported to Tala, Bandhavgarh, where their health is being evaluated.

According to reports, an intensive search operation is underway for the female tiger although it is being presumed that they are the offspring of the tigress found dead last week. Speculation that there were three tiger cubs have also been put to rest, as the rescue team has found no sign of the third cub. Sources indicate that the two tiger cubs will be trained to live in the wild, assuming no human presence. This will be closely monitored by Sahay, who has successfully conducted this experiment once before in the Panna Tiger Reserve.
