What did Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge say on the lynching of a Dalit youth in UP's Rae Bareli?

A Dalit youth has been beaten to death in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh. The Congress party has targeted the state's Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, over the incident.

The Congress party wrote on Twitter, "The news of the lynching of a Dalit youth in Rae Bareli is extremely saddening. Our condolences are with the bereaved family."

The Congress party further wrote, "This incident shows that Yogi Adityanath has given free rein to criminals in Uttar Pradesh. He is turning a blind eye, especially to crimes against Dalits."

Providing information on the incident, Rae Bareli police stated, "The Unchahar police team arrested five accused who had mistaken a young man for a thief and beaten him to death, and sent them to judicial custody."

Police officer Girija Shankar Tripathi said, "These five accused are Vaibhav Singh, Vipin Maurya, Vijay Kumar, Sahadev, and Suresh Kumar. They were involved in the beating and murder of a young man named Hariom. The search for the other accused involved in the incident is ongoing."

It is the murder of humanity: Rahul

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge issued a joint statement in this regard.

Rahul Gandhi said, "The brutal murder of Dalit youth Hariom Valmiki in Rae Bareli is not just the murder of a human being—it is the murder of humanity, the Constitution, and justice. Today in India, Dalits, tribals, Muslims, backward classes, and the poor—everyone whose voice is weakened, whose share is being snatched away, and whose life is considered cheap—is being targeted."

He said, "Hatred, violence, and mobocracy have the patronage of power in a country where bulldozers have replaced the Constitution, and fear has replaced justice... India's future rests on equality and humanity, and this country will be governed by the Constitution, not the whims of the mob."

Sharing his statement on social media, Mallikarjun Kharge said, "The Congress Party strongly condemns the brutal and cruel murder of Hariom Valmiki."

He said, "What happened in Rae Bareli is a grave offence against the Constitution of this country. It is a crime against the Dalit community, and a blot on this country and society."

Rae Bareli police announced on Sunday that five accused have been arrested in this case.

The police said, "The Unchahar police team arrested the five accused who beat the young man to death after mistaking him for a thief and sent him to judicial custody... The search for other accused involved in the incident is ongoing."
