What world's biggest YouTuber Mr. Beast said about AI

Mr. Beast, the world's biggest YouTuber, has said that the rapid progress of generative artificial intelligence (AI) is "scary," especially for the millions of creators who "make a living by creating content."

With over 442 million subscribers, Mr. Beast has the most subscribed channel on YouTube. He is also the third-most-followed creator on TikTok, with over 119.3 million followers

In the past few years, AI tools have rapidly developed that can create fully-formatted videos from just text prompts.

The latest tool is OpenAI's Sora, launched last week.

This tool is in the news because it allows people to easily copy copyrighted characters and content.

On social media, Mr. Beast asked, "When AI videos become as good as normal videos, what will happen to people like us?"

Fears about AI's impact on the job market are already widespread, but these concerns are even more acute in the creative fields.

In the film and video game industries, there have even been large-scale strikes and protests over the use of AI

YouTube has also been leaning into AI

YouTube, too, has been leaning into AI. The platform recently rolled out editing tools that can animate still photos or transform video styles using AI models like Veo. It’s also using artificial intelligence to automatically generate clips and highlights from livestreams and podcasts, and even help creators manage their channels through an AI chatbot inside YouTube Studio.

Interestingly, Mr. Beast has previously experimented with AI as well. Earlier this year, he faced criticism after his analytics platform, Viewstats, launched an AI tool to generate video thumbnails. Following backlash from artists and fans, he removed the feature and replaced it with links to hire human designers instead.
