Landslide hits bus in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, 18 people die, many others feared trapped, PM Modi expresses grief
At least 18 people were killed, and three rescued, after a private bus was buried under the debris of a massive landslide triggered in Himachal Pradesh's Bilaspur district late Tuesday evening.
The bus, carrying around 30 to 35 passengers, was on its way from Haryana's Rohtak to Ghumarwin, near Bilaspur, when, due to heavy rain, the entire hill came crashing onto the bus.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed grief and provided information.
Reporting the incident on the social media platform X, the CM wrote, "The news of the massive landslide near Balughat in the Jhanduta Assembly constituency of Bilaspur district has deeply shaken me."
He said, "Sad news has been received that 10 people have died after a private bus was hit by this massive landslide, and many others are feared trapped under the debris."
Rescue operations are underway following the accident. The CM said that officials have been instructed to deploy full machinery.
The Chief Minister said, "I stand with all the affected families in this difficult time."
PM expresses grief
PM Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to a mishap in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. PM Modi also wished speedy recovery for those injured in the mishap.
The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia from PMNRF of Rs. 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 for those injured.
The Prime Minister’s Office posted on X;
“Saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.
An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM @narendramodi”
