Airless tires launched, will problem of punctures be over forever?
Technology is reaching new heights every day, and its impact is clearly visible in the automobile sector. Previously, vehicles used tube tires, then tubeless tires came. Now, airless tires have entered the market. This is considered the most modern and solution to the long-standing problem of punctures that has plagued drivers. The specialty of airless tires is that they require no air to operate. Due to their robust design and advanced technology, they provide a safer driving experience with less maintenance.
What makes airless tires special?
Airless tires have been developed in such a way that they do not require air to be filled. There is no risk of deflation or puncture. These tires do not contain air, so they neither burst nor puncture. Rubber spokes and strong belts help maintain the tire's grip, stability, and shape.
Their unique design is visible from the outside, giving the vehicle a futuristic look. Most importantly, they eliminate the need for air pressure checks, puncture repairs, or frequent maintenance. They are considered extremely safe for long-distance and off-road driving.
Airless tires are more expensive
Currently, the cheapest airless tires available in the Indian market start at Rs 10,000 to 20,000. The price increases depending on the tire size, brand, and quality. However, experts believe that as these tires become more widely available, prices may decline.
Meanwhile, the price of commonly used tubeless tires in India starts from Rs 1,500, which increases depending on the size, brand, and vehicle category. This means that airless tires are currently many times more expensive than tubeless tires.
Airless tires were pioneered by Michelin
Airless tires were pioneered by Michelin. Michelin developed this technology in collaboration with General Motors and it was first used in the Chevrolet Bolt car. Subsequently, many leading companies, including Goodyear, have also started working on this technology, which is expected to further accelerate the airless tire market in the future.
