The death toll in the plane crash that occurred in Kentucky, USA, on Tuesday evening has risen to at least seven, according to Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
A UPS cargo plane caught fire while taking off from Louisville Airport. Three people were initially reported dead in the accident.
Andy Beshear said the plane's three crew members are feared among the dead.
At least 11 other people were injured in the accident. Officials say the injuries were "very serious," and the death toll could rise.
The plane was carrying approximately 38,000 gallons of fuel, which burst into flames after the explosion, engulfing nearby businesses.
Firefighters have nearly contained the fire
Hundreds of firefighters have nearly contained the fire spreading over “a massive area” and are working to “create a formal grid” to search for potential victims, fire officials said Tuesday night.
While the cause of the crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, firefighters are searching the impacted area for possible victims in the debris. A team of at least 28 people is scheduled to arrive in Kentucky Wednesday, an airport official said.
