Amit Shah visits blast site near Delhi’s Red Fort; culprits will not be spared, says PM Modi
Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the blast site near Delhi’s Red Fort and reviewed the situation. The Home Minister obtained details of the situation from the Delhi Police Commissioner and other senior officials present at the site.
Shah also visited Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital and met the injured. He also spoke to the doctors and inquired about the health of the injured.
Amit Shah said that a thorough investigation of the case has been initiated from every angle. He said that as soon as information about the incident was received, teams from the Delhi Police Special Cell, Crime Branch, NIA, NSG and FSL reached the spot, and our agencies are working to find out the cause of the blast.
The Home Minister said that as soon as news of the blast came in, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called and took stock of the incident. He added that the investigation is being carried out from all angles, and until the evidence collected from the scene is analysed, no possibility is being ruled out.
Death toll mounts to 12
Meanwhile, the attacker has also been killed in the car bomb blast that occurred near Delhi's Red Fort on Monday evening.
The death toll in the Delhi blast has risen to 12, including two women. Twenty injured are undergoing treatment. Two bodies have been identified. The remaining will be identified through DNA testing.
A powerful explosion occurred in a moving car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station at 6:52 p.m. on Monday. CCTV footage of the white i20 car used in the blast surfaced on Tuesday.
A man wearing a black mask was seen sitting in the car
A man wearing a black mask was seen sitting in the car leaving the metro station parking lot. His name is reported to be Dr. Mohammad Umar Nabi, a resident of Pulwama.
According to police sources, Umar blew himself up with explosives. Kashmir Police have detained his mother and two brothers in Pulwama for DNA testing.
Preliminary police investigations have revealed that ammonium nitrate, fuel, and a detonator were used in the blast.
Meanwhile, PM Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Bhutan, paid tribute to those killed in the Delhi blast. He said, "The entire nation stands with the families affected by the Delhi blast. The culprits will not be spared."
