Bihar Assembly Election-2025: Rhetoric intensifies over Rahul Gandhi’s remark on Chhath Puja and murder in Mokama

Bihar Assembly Election-2025: In Bihar, a political fight has started about the Chhath Puja. During his first election rally on October 29, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Modi, pointing out the pollution in Delhi's Yamuna River.

Rahul mentioned Chhath Puja, saying, "The Prime Minister doesn't care about the Yamuna or Chhath Puja; he only wants your votes. If you tell Modiji to stage such a drama, he will do it for votes. If you tell him to come on stage and dance, he will."

The BJP party quickly responded to Rahul's comments. The next day, Prime Minister Modi, speaking at rallies in Bihar, called Rahul's remarks disrespectful to Chhath devotees.

Other BJP leaders also reacted strongly. BJP National President JP Nadda and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made comments about Rahul's statement during their rallies. Yogi Adityanath even joked that if Rahul campaigns, the NDA will surely win.

Murder in Mokama

In another incident, a murder in Mokama has added to the political tension in Bihar. A man named Dularchand Yadav was killed while campaigning for a candidate named Piyush Priyadarshi. Dularchand's family and supporters blame Anant Singh, the JDU candidate, for the murder.

Prashant Kishor, leader of the Jan Suraj Abhiyan, said this murder reminds him of the violent past in Bihar during elections. He said, "While disagreements are normal in democracy, murder has no place in it. The administration is responsible for this failure."

Tejashwi Yadav, RJD leader, said that there should be no violence in democracy and questioned how a convoy of armed vehicles could operate freely. He asked what actions the Election Commission and administration were taking in response.

Former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi defended the law and order situation, saying an investigation is underway and that RJD members might be trying to create trouble.

Voting for the 243 seats in the Bihar Assembly will take place in two phases: the first on November 6 and the second on November 11, with results announced on November 14.
