IAF Tejas fighter jet crashes at Dubai Air Show, pilot dies
An Indian Air Force Tejas fighter jet has crashed at the Dubai Air Show. The accident occurred during a demo flight at the ongoing air show at Al Maktoum Airport. The accident occurred at 3:40 pm Indian time on Friday.
The Tejas pilot also died in the accident, the Indian Air Force confirmed. The aircraft caught fire as it crashed, and a plume of black smoke was seen over the airport.
Tejas suddenly descended during the air show
Video shows the Tejas flying normally during its demo routine, but suddenly its altitude began to decrease and it began to rapidly descend.
IAF sets up court of inquiry
Following the accident, the Indian Air Force has set up a court of inquiry to investigate the cause of the fighter jet crash.
This is the second incident of an Air Force Tejas jet crash. Previously, in 2024, a Tejas crashed due to engine failure during a maneuver in Pokhran, Rajasthan.
Mishap occurred on the final day of the 5-day air show
International aircraft are showcased at the Dubai Air Show. The world's leading aerospace companies, airlines, air forces, and technology companies showcase their new aircraft, helicopters, weapon systems, and aerospace technology here. Friday was the final day of the five-day air show.
The Dubai Air Show, which began in 1989, is held every two years at Dubai's Al Maktoum International Airport. This is the third consecutive year that the Tejas has participated.
IAF expresses deep condolences
The Indian Air Force expressed deep condolences over this tragic incident and stated that it stands firmly with the family of the deceased pilot in this difficult time.
Rescue operations underway
Rescue operations were launched within minutes of the incident. The afternoon demos typically draw the largest crowds. However, the air show has been suspended following the accident. All the people present there have been evacuated from the exhibition area.
