India working on a new plan for human-centered and ethical AI; what PM Modi told at ESTIC 2025


Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced that India is working on a new plan for "human-centered" and "ethical artificial intelligence (AI)" during the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC 2025) at Bharat Mandapam. He said that this AI governance plan will be ready next year, and India will host the Global AI Summit in February 2026.

AI should be used for the benefit of humanity

PM Modi explained that the government is making a detailed plan to guide how AI can be used and what its limits are. He stressed that "AI should be used for the benefit of humanity and responsibly." He said this effort will help India become a leader in technology. "India is not just using technology anymore; we are also creating and guiding it," he said.

New Research Development and Innovation Scheme 

At the event, the Prime Minister introduced the Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme. This scheme will support private research and development in India. He announced a fund of Rs 1 lakh crore to encourage investments in research and innovation, especially in AI and technology. The goal is to make it easier to conduct research and improve India's innovation system.\

Global AI Summit 2026 in Feb 2026

PM Modi also shared that the Global AI Summit will take place in February 2026, focusing on ethical and inclusive AI development. Experts, tech companies, and governments from around the world will join the event. Major companies like Google and OpenAI have already made significant investments in AI in India, showing that the country is quickly becoming a global center for AI.
