MP: City forest taking shape on Dhar’s Jamanjatti Hill; special garden modeled after Telangana
The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department is developing a 'city forest' on Jamanjatti Hill near Dhar city. Following the completion of the first phase of plantation work, civil work in the second phase is nearing completion.
Halls, picnic spots, and walking tracks have been constructed for visitors to this forest area, allowing them to spend time in a natural environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The MP Forest Department is rapidly constructing gates, halls, and other structures on the hill to ensure the project is completed within the stipulated time-frame. This site is set to become a unique confluence of environment, education, biodiversity, and tourism.
15 different theme-based forests are being developed
Fifteen different theme-based forests are being developed here, including a special garden modeled after Telangana, which will become a major attraction for tourists and locals in the future.
Dhar Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Vijay Anandam TR said that plants of local species, along with shade-giving, fruit-bearing, and medicinal values trees, have been selected for the city forest. Furthermore, the plants in the garden, based on the Telangana pattern, are being arranged in a way that clearly demonstrates both their aesthetic and ecological significance.
This garden will not only serve as a learning and awareness center for environmentalists and students, but will also cultivate a special category of plants based on planets and constellations.
Over 8000 trees planted
According to the Forest Department, construction of the proposed picnic spot, hall, pathway, and gate is nearly complete. For easy public access, a kilometer-long approach road has also been constructed from the gate of the Kol Bhairav Temple to the main entrance of the hill. Over 8,000 trees have been planted in this city forest, spanning approximately 50 hectares, and four new theme gardens are being developed.
It is expected that the city forest will be fully completed by the New Year. Once it is built, this place will become a new centre for sightseeing, study and natural enjoyment for the city residents.
