Star boxer Nikhat Zareen bags gold in 51 kg category in World Boxing Cup; Nupur Sheoran in 80+ kg category

India's star boxer Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal on Thursday at the World Boxing Cup Finals in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

In the women's 51 kg category, she faced Guo Yi Xuan of Chinese Taipei, whom she defeated 5-1.

On Wednesday, Nikhat Zareen defeated Ganiva Glusever of Uzbekistan to reach the final.

In addition to Nikhat, Minakshi Hooda won the gold medal in the 48 kg category, Preeti Pawar in the 54 kg category, and Nupur Sheoran in the 80+ kg category.

Preeti Pawar won a one-sided 5-0 victory over Sirin Charabi of Italy, while Nupur Sheoran defeated Oltinoy Sotymboeva of Uzbekistan.

Young boxer Preeti said this victory is special for her because it marks her return to the international stage.

Preeti said, "I've made a comeback and I'm stronger than before. I'll continue to give my best."

She added, "Next year is the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, and the Asian Games will be held again in 2026."

Preeti is the second Indian athlete to win a gold medal in this competition, and Nupur Sheoran is the third.

Previously, Minakshi Hooda won gold in the 48 kg category. Both Preeti and Meenakshi are from Haryana.

Born on October 23, 2003, in Bhiwani, Haryana, Preeti Pawar began boxing at the age of 14.

Her uncle, Vinod, was a former national-level medalist and played a key role in introducing her to boxing.

Vinod took Preeti under his wing and began coaching her. Preeti's father is an officer in Haryana Police.
