Why Dharmendra used to get a new suit stitched every year
Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra never received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
Dharmendra acted in many super-hit films in his six-decade-long career, but he never received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor, and this was one of his lifelong regrets. However, he later received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dharmendra received numerous Filmfare nominations for Best Actor and would get a new suit stitched every year, hoping that perhaps this time he would receive the honor, but he never received it.
Dharmendra once said, "It's been 37 years in the film industry. Every year I would get a suit stitched and look for a matching tie. I would leave every year thinking that maybe I would get this Black Lady Award. But I never got this award. Never did. In the 60s, I did 'Anupama', 'Phool Aur Patthar'. I did many films, golden jubilee, silver jubilee films, but I never got this award. After that, I stopped getting suits stitched and stopped looking for a matching tie."
Dharmendra was honored with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. At that time, he said that it shows 15 awards that he should have received but never received.
