6.7 magnitude earthquake strikes Japan amidst mega earthquake fears; Tsunami warning issued
A tsunami warning has been issued for the northern coast of Japan after a 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck.
Japan's weather officials reported that "sea-level fluctuations" were recorded due to the quake, although no damage is currently suspected.
Over 6,000 people evacuated
More than 6,000 people have been evacuated from several areas along the coast of Aomori Prefecture, the northernmost prefecture on Japan's main island.
Just days ago, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck the same area, injuring at least 50 people.
Another stronger earthquake could occur
Officials warned that another, stronger earthquake could occur and urged people to remain on high alert for at least a week.
Mega earthquake fears
The tremors come as Japan is anticipating a megaquake off its Pacific coast.
Experts have warned that there is a 60-90% chance of such an earthquake occurring within the next 30 years.
