Bihar: Upendra Kushwaha takes this major step amidst rebellion in RLM after son's appointment as minister
Upendra Kushwaha RLM Bihar nepotism row: Bihar politics has once again been rocked by a major upheaval. Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief and Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha on Sunday announced the dissolution of his party's state and district units with immediate effect. This tough decision was taken at a core committee meeting held on Sunday.
This step comes amid strong discontent within the party over ministerial positions and nepotism. Kushwaha's decision is being seen as an attempt to control the turmoil within the party.
Major change to the organizational structure
A major change has been made to the organizational structure to ensure smooth functioning. The meeting formed a five-member steering committee, which will now lead the party.
Madan Chaudhary has been appointed as the convener of this committee, along with Subhash Chandravanshi, Prashant Pankaj, Himanshu Patel, and RK Sinha as members. This committee will be responsible for all party programs, activities, and interim organizational management.
Prominent leaders such as Madhav Anand, Alok Singh, Rampukar Sinha, Jang Bahadur Singh, Angad Kushwaha, and Smriti Kumud were present at this crucial core committee meeting.
Kushwaha's wife Snehlata won the Sasaram seat
The NDA ally RLM performed resoundingly well in the recent Bihar Assembly elections, winning four out of six seats. Kushwaha's wife, Snehlata, won the Sasaram seat and reached the Assembly. However, the real bone of contention was the distribution of ministerial positions in the Nitish Kumar cabinet.
Kushwaha bypassed thse winning MLAs
Kushwaha, bypassing the winning MLAs and senior leaders, appointed his son, Deepak Prakash, as the Panchayati Raj Minister who did not even contest the elections. This decision has sparked a rebellion within the party. Following his son's appointment as a minister, seven senior party leaders resigned simultaneously, bringing the party to the brink of collapse.
Dynasty politics
Upendra Kushwaha, who until now spoke of socialism, has been accused of promoting dynasty politics. This "son-obsession" in politics has angered old and loyal party members. In light of the spate of resignations and internal strife, a core committee meeting was hastily convened on Sunday, and a decision was taken to dissolve the entire executive. Now, it remains to be seen whether the new five-member committee can control this rebellion within the party. For now, Kushwaha's decision has further fueled the political heat in Bihar.
