Banana Farmers Protest: In Andhra Pradesh, farmers are forced to sell bananas for 50 paise a kilo, while in Delhi, bananas are being sold for over 80 rupees a kilo.

Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Jagan Mohan Reddy recently posted about the plight of banana farmers on the social media platform X. In this post, he wrote that the condition of banana farmers in Andhra Pradesh is very bad. A kilo of bananas is being sold for just 50 paise.

Jagan Mohan Reddy further wrote in his social media post, "Yes, you heard it right, fifty paise! This price is less than a box of matches and cheaper than a biscuit. Farmers invested lakhs of rupees and toiled for months, but all they got was pain. This isn't just about bananas. From onions to tomatoes, farmers aren't getting a fair price for any crop. They received neither free crop insurance nor any assistance during natural disasters. All the promises made proved false."

Average price of banana was 25 rupees per kg during previous govt

In the same post, he writes that during the previous government, the average price of bananas was 25,000 rupees per ton (25 rupees per kg). To protect farmers from losses, special trains were run to Delhi. This arrangement saved thousands of families. Cold storages were also built across the state to prevent farmers from being forced to sell their produce at low prices.

Reddy said today Chandrababu Naidu has abandoned farmers to their fate. He is silently watching as agriculture is ruined.
