IND vs. South Africa T20: India win by 101 runs; Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya achieved these milestones
India set South Africa a target of 176 runs in the first T20I. South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. India scored 175 for 6 in 20 overs.
Needing 176 runs to win, S Africa was bundled out for only 74 runs in 12.3 over. This is the ninth time Team India has won a T20I match by a margin of 100 runs or more. The second T20I will be played in Chandigarh on December 11th.
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Keshav Maharaj (0) and Dewald Brevis (22 runs) in the same over. He also completed 100 wickets in T20 Internationals.
Varun Chakravarthy took the wickets of Marco Yanson (12 runs) and Donovan Ferreira (5 runs). David Miller (1 run) was dismissed by Hardik Pandya on his first ball. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Quinton de Kock (0) and Tristan Stubbs (14 runs).
Hardik Pandya top-scored for Team India with 59 runs (28 balls). He reached his fifty off 25 balls. Pandya also reached 100 sixes in T20 Internationals. Besides Pandya, Tilak Varma scored 26, while Axar Patel scored 23. Abhishek Sharma contributed 17, while captain Suryakumar Yadav scored 12.
India thus secured a big win, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series.
Chasing the target, South Africa got off to a poor start, losing three wickets in the powerplay. South Africa then lost wickets regularly, and none of their batsmen could score a substantial innings. South Africa's batting was so poor that only four batsmen reached double figures.
Dewald Brewis top-scored for South Africa with 22, while captain Aiden Markram scored 14, Tristan Stubbs 14, and Marco Jansen 12.
For India, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy, and Axar Patel each took two wickets. Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya each took one wicket. Interestingly, all Indian bowlers were successful. During this period, Bumrah reached 100 wickets in T20 Internationals, becoming the second Indian bowler after Arshdeep to do so.
