IndiGo crisis: Over 650 flights cancelled on Sunday, govt's notice to CEO
Due to the IndiGo crisis that has been ongoing for the past five days, more than 800 flights were canceled on Saturday. This trend continues for the sixth day. More than 650 IndiGo flights were canceled on Sunday as well. These include flights departing from Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Mumbai, and Trichy.
Previously, the airline canceled approximately 1,600 flights on Friday and approximately 800 on Saturday.
However, IndiGo claims to have normalized flight operations on 95% of its routes. The airline stated that flights are operating to 135 out of 138 destinations. It will take a long time to regain public confidence, the airlnes said.
IndiGo told to complete refund process
Meanwhile, the government has tightened its stance. The Ministry of Civil Aviation said the company must complete the entire refund process for canceled or postponed flights by 8 p.m. on December 7. The passenger's baggage will have to be traced and delivered within the next 48 hours.
Notice to CEO
The CEO of the company will have to explain within 24 hours why action should not be taken against the company in view of the crisis that has been going on for the last 5 days. In case of no reply, DGCA will be able to take a unilateral decision.
A restriction was imposed on increasing fares of other airlines. Airfares were fixed. Now no airline will be able to charge more than Rs 7500 for a distance of 500 km and Rs 12 thousand for a distance of 500-1000 km.
The maximum fare of the airlines has been fixed at Rs 18 thousand. However, this fare limit will not be applicable for business class.
