MP: New Year-2026 celebrations begin in Hanuwantiya with grand opening of Water Festival: these will be key attractions

Madhya Pradesh: Following Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav's vision to develop Hanuwantiya as a global tourist destination, the MP Tourism Department is making continuous efforts. In this direction, the Water Festival was grandly inaugurated at the famous water tourism destination of Hanuwantiya on December 30. Held in the picturesque and tranquil surroundings of the Narmada backwaters, this festival emerged as a wonderful confluence of tourism, culture, and celebration, coinciding with the New Year's festivities.

The Hanuwantiya region is extremely rich in natural beauty. The vast reservoir spread over approximately 95 square kilometers, more than 90 islands, tranquil environment, and biodiversity make it unique. This is why Hanuwantiya has emerged as a major center for tourism, investment, and innovation.

Tent City spread over 17 acres, 104 Swiss Cottages

The Tent City developed under the Water Festival is spread over approximately 17 acres, with a total of 104 Swiss cottage tents. These include deluxe and luxury category tents, providing tourists with a safe, comfortable, and modern stay amidst nature.

Exciting activities for 100 days

This year too, the Water Festival, which started on December 30th, will continuously feature various exciting activities for 100 days. During the Water Festival, a wide range of land, water, and air-based activities are available for tourists, including speed boating, jet skiing, kayaking, water parasailing, banana rides, ziplining, ATV rides, cycling, trekking, and tethered hot air balloon rides. 



Along with this, yoga, nature walks, wellness activities, and safe entertainment options for families are also available, making this event suitable for tourists of all age groups.

A platform for folk art, culture, and local flavors

The Water Festival provides a national platform for the folk art, folk music, tribal culture, crafts, and traditional cuisine of Madhya Pradesh

Aqua Serenade: A Special Attraction for the New Year

A special event was organized at Hanuwantiya under the theme "Aqua Serenade in Hanuwantiya" for the New Year celebrations.  From December 30th, cultural evenings, a gala night, light and sound shows, water-based performances, and a festive atmosphere attracted tourists.

Earlier, under the guidance of the Minister of State for Tourism, Culture, and Religious Trusts and Endowments, Dharmendra Lodhi, and the leadership of Additional Chief Secretary for Tourism Sheo Shekhar Shukla, the New Year celebration based on the 'Aqua Serenade in Hanuwantiya' theme was formally inaugurated. On this occasion, the Additional Collector of Khandwa district, Srishti Deshmukh, inaugurated the water festival by cutting the ribbon. This event filled the entire region with joy, happiness, and festive colors.
