Weather: Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh; MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan in grip of cold wave, check latest IMD updates
Snowfall is occurring in hilly states like Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. This is impacting the plains. Heavy snowfall was reported near the Sonamarg tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir.
In Himachal Pradesh, snowfall has been continuous in Lahaul-Spiti since the evening of December 30th. Temperatures there could drop to -10°C.
In Madhya Pradesh, the temperature in Kalyanpur, Shahdol, was 1.7°C.
Fog alert
A fog alert has been issued by India Meterologivcal Department (IMD) for Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh for January 1. The lower regions of the hilly states may experience light rain, while the higher altitudes could see snowfall. Rain, snowfall, and cold winds could intensify the effects of winter and cold waves in many areas.
In Chhattisgarh, the night temperature in Mainpat reached 2°C. Dew froze in Ambikapur and Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi. Four divisions are under the grip of a cold wave.
In Rajasthan, amidst the severe cold, a warning of rain has also been issued for the next two days.
Delhi-NCR woke up to dense fog on Wednesday morning. Visibility was zero in many parts of Delhi. The fog also affected flight operations at IGI Airport.
The airport issued an advisory to passengers, stating that CAT III procedures were in effect. Flights may be delayed or even canceled.
