What Bhupender Yadav said on Supreme Court's stay on its earlier order on Aravalli range? What Congress said?
The Supreme Court on Monday stayed its own order related to the definition of the Aravalli range. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav welcomed the Court's decision.
Bhupender Yadav said, "I welcome the stay on the Supreme Court's earlier order related to the Aravalli range and the directions for the formation of a new committee to study the matter."
He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "We are committed to providing all necessary support to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for the conservation and restoration of the Aravalli range."
"The complete ban on mining will remain in effect. The ban on issuing new mining leases or renewing old mining leases will also continue."
SC directive gives a "flicker of hope": Ramesh
The Congress welcomed the Supreme Court's decision and demanded the resignation of Bhupender Yadav, saying all his arguments in favour of the redefinition have been rejected.
In a post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the directive gives a "flicker of hope".
"The Indian National Congress welcomes the directives given by the Supreme Court on the redefinition of the Aravallis being pushed through by the (Narendra) Modi government," Mr. Ramesh said.
Recently, the Supreme Court had accepted a new definition of the Aravalli range following recommendations from the central government. According to this definition, only land areas at least 100 meters (328 feet) above the surrounding terrain would be considered part of the Aravalli hills.
