Ajit Pawar's wife Sunetra Pawar be sworn in as Maharashtra's first woman Deputy CM; Legislative Party meeting on this day
Maharashtra: A new chapter is about to be written in Maharashtra politics. Sunetra Pawar, wife of the late Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar, will be sworn in as Maharashtra's first woman Deputy Chief Minister. According to official sources, the swearing-in ceremony will be held at Raj Bhavan Saturday evening.
Since the formation of Maharashtra, no woman has had the opportunity to reach the position of Deputy Chief Minister. Sunetra Pawar's appointment to this post is considered significant not only socially but also strategically.
This decision was taken amidst the political circumstances that arose in Maharashtra politics after Ajit Pawar's death.
Legislative Party Meeting on Saturday
Maharashtra Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said that a legislative party meeting has also been called on Saturday, in which Sunetra will be made its leader. According to sources, Sunetra will get the Excise and Sports ministries, while the Finance Ministry will be handled by Devendra Fadnavis.
Sunetra is currently a Rajya Sabha MP and it is being said that she may contest elections from Ajit Pawar's seat in the future. Sunetra had also contested the Baramati seat in the last Lok Sabha elections but lost to Supriya Sule.
Sunetra Pawar has been actively involved in social work
Sunetra Pawar has been actively involved in social work for a long time, especially in the Baramati region, where she has played a major role in rural development through the 'Agricultural Development Trust'. Her recent election to the Rajya Sabha and her increasing activity within the party have paved the way for her to reach this high position. Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are underway. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and several other prominent leaders of the Mahayuti alliance will be present at the ceremony.
Speaking to reporters at the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) office, Bhujbal said that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has stated that he has no objection to Sunetra Pawar being sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister if the party's legislative group decides on it.
