Alert in Bhopal after deaths due to contaminated water in Indore; what measures BMC is taking?

Ten deaths have been reported in Bhagirathpura, Indore, due to contaminated water. Following this incident, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation has also become alert. Mayor Malti Rai has ordered all engineers to conduct inspections to determine if contaminated water is being supplied anywhere in the city.

Mayor Rai has instructed all sub-engineers, assistant engineers, and supervisors to carry out inspections. She has also directed the Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineer to monitor the situation. Orders have also been given to submit reports after the inspections.

It is worth noting that the Municipal Corporation receives several complaints related to sewage every day. ​​There are fears that sewage might be mixing with the drinking water supply. Teams have been deployed to investigate this possibility.

A municipal corporation team arrived in Awadhpuri on Wednesday to inspect the drinking water pipeline. They also collected water samples from some houses.

HC seeks status report from state govt

Meanwhile, the Indore bench of the High Court has sought a status report from the state government by January 2nd in the matter. Ritesh Insani, president of the Indore High Court Bar Association, had filed a public interest litigation on Wednesday morning demanding that clean drinking water be provided to the citizens of the city. The court held a swift hearing on the matter and sought a response from the state government.

Cong forms 5-member inquiry committee

The Congress party has formed a five-member committee to investigate the matter. The committee includes former minister Sajjan Verma, Jaywardhan Singh, Badnawar MLA Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, Tarana MLA Mahesh Parmar, and Sardarpur MLA Pratap Grewal.

Media and Entertainment sector lower downs 24% in 2020 despite last-quarter rebound

  India's media and entertainment (M&E) sector lower downed 24% to Rs1.38 trillion in 2020 due to the corona-virus pandemic. The contractions came despite a rebound in the last-quarter. The M&E sector is supposed to expand 25% to Rs1.73 trillion in 2021 and compound annual growth rate of 13.7% to Rs2.23 trillion by 2023, according to a joint report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry(Ficci) and EY, finance consulting firm.  While advertisement revenues dropped 25% to 19,900 crore and subscriptions fell 20% to 15,400 crores. Digital advertisement remained unchanged, but print (Rs 8,400 crore) and television (Rs 6,900 crore) advertising saw the steepest declines. The only segments that rose in 2020 were digital and online gaming, which added a total of Rs 2,600 crore and their contribution to the M&E sector rose from 16% in 2019 to 23% in 2020.
