All measures to be taken to prevent recurrence of Bhagirathpura Indore waterborne incident: What CM Mohan Yadav said in review meeting?

MP Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav held a review meeting in Indore on Wednesday with public representatives and senior officials regarding the waterborne incident that occurred in the Bhagirathpura area in Indore. 

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav conducted a detailed review of the incident, the current situation, and the arrangements made so far. He issued clear instructions that such an incident must not recur under any circumstances in the future. He stated that ensuring the supply of clean and safe drinking water to citizens is the government’s highest priority, and any negligence in this regard will invite strict action.

CM directed Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Administration) Sanjay Dubey to remain stationed in Indore to ensure continuous monitoring and swift decision-making. He also instructed that adequate manpower and resources be provided to the Municipal Corporation, as required, to strengthen water supply and sewerage systems.

Dr. Yadav said that an investigation into the initial lapses is underway and that strict action will be taken against the responsible officers and agencies based on the detailed inquiry report. Describing the incident as unfortunate, he said that the government will take firm steps to ensure that citizens do not face such hardship again and that lessons are learnt to prevent any recurrence.

Clean drinking water is currently being supplied through tankers

The Chief Minister informed that clean drinking water is currently being supplied through tankers. Once the regular water supply resumes, immediate corrective action will be taken wherever there is any indication of leakage or contamination. He said that the water supply has been found to be safe in approximately 60 percent of the affected area, while problems in the remaining areas have been traced to old and damaged pipelines, which are being repaired.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav appreciated the prompt response of public representatives, the administration, government and private hospitals, and medical colleges. He said that due to their coordinated efforts, the emergency situation was brought under control and timely medical treatment was provided to affected citizens.

Symptoms were found in 2,456 suspected cases

The meeting was informed that after apprehensions of contaminated water supply emerged in the Bhagirathpura ward, immediate action was taken. Over the past two to three days, more than 40,000 citizens were screened, of whom symptoms were found in 2,456 suspected cases. Of these, 212 patients were admitted to hospitals; 50 have recovered and been discharged, while the treatment of 162 patients is ongoing. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that he personally visited various hospitals along with public representatives and met the patients, most of whom are in stable condition.
