How traditional artisans from Madhya Pradesh are showcasing their skills at Delhi Haat

Under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, five traditional artisans from Madhya Pradesh are participating in the crafts and handicrafts exhibition at Delhi Haat, New Delhi, until January 31, 2026. This participation is sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, and coordinated by the State Nodal Department, Directorate of Handlooms and Handicrafts, Bhopal.

These five artisans selected from Madhya Pradesh represent the vibrant and rich craft traditions of the state. The products they are showcasing include traditional leather toys from Indore, wooden toys from Sehore, traditional carved wooden sculptures, Dhokra (bell metal) art from Betul, and leather garments and accessories. All these crafts reflect traditional skills, cultural heritage, and regional identity passed down through generations.

Jitendra's creations showcase traditional craftsmanship

Jitendra, a Dhokra (bell metal) artisan from Betul (Madhya Pradesh), has been associated with this traditional hand-cast metal craft for generations with his family. Bell metal, or bronze, is a hard, brittle form of bronze, typically containing about 78–80% copper and 20–22% tin. It is renowned for its resonant properties, producing a clear, melodious sound when struck, making it ideal for bells, cymbals, gongs, and traditional utensils.



Jitendra's creations showcase traditional craftsmanship rooted in local culture. Through the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, his craft is gaining national recognition and better marketing opportunities.

Kedarnath Sahu is a traditional wood craftsman 

Kedarnath Sahu is a traditional wood craftsman from Shahdol district. His craftsmanship combines traditional skills with a modern design approach, resulting in attractive and contemporary wooden artifacts. The scheme is providing him with wider market access and new opportunities.

Prakash is a traditional toy maker 

Prakash is a traditional toy maker who creates unique leather-like toys. These toys are made from cruelty-free materials, while completely preserving the traditional techniques, detailing, and finish. Despite his disability, his continuous dedication and commitment are inspiring. The Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana is providing his products with a wider market and recognition.

Wooden toys are ODOP of Sehore district

Vinod Kumar Sharma and Savita Sharma are traditional wooden toy makers from Sehore district. Wooden toys are the One District One Product (ODOP) of Sehore district. The toys, crafted with simple shapes, vibrant colors, and time-tested manufacturing techniques, appeal to both children and adults. Through the scheme, they are gaining access to wider marketing platforms.

Sunny Swami manufactures leather garments and accessories

Sunny Swami, a cobbler from Indore, traditionally started his work making leather shoes. Currently, he manufactures leather garments and accessories such as jackets, laptop sleeves, handbags, and clutches. Under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, he received a loan of one lakh rupees, which enabled him to expand his business. The marketing support provided by the scheme is helping him reach new markets.

Through the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, these artisans are not only getting opportunities to showcase their work at the national level but are also receiving significant support in direct marketing, market linkages, and livelihood enhancement.
