Seventeen people have died so far in Bhagirathpura, Indore, due to contaminated water. Meanwhile, the bore-well water in Bhagirathpura has also been found to be contaminated. After the issue came to light, water samples were collected from bore-wells across the city. Of these, 35 samples failed the tests, meaning the water is not potable. Consequently, the use of water from 516 bore-wells in the area has been banned. This includes 400 private and 116 government bore-wells.

There is still an atmosphere of fear among the residents regarding the water from the Narmada River and water tankers. This has led to an increased demand for RO (reverse osmosis) water purifiers in the area.

Many people are installing RO systems in their homes. Residents say that even the water supplied by tankers is contaminated in many places.

In addition, more  samples were taken from 112 water tanks, taps, and bore-wells on Sunday. These samples will be tested in a private laboratory. The municipal corporation has its own lab, but it is understaffed.

Since the issue came to light on December 29, there has been a climate of fear in the area. Many people are avoiding using Narmada river water and are instead relying on borewell water, RO water, and bottled water. Although water is being supplied through tankers in the area, people are being advised to filter and boil the water before use.

Meanwhile, Collector Shivam Verma and Municipal Commissioner Kshitij Singhal on Monday conducted a joint inspection with the district administration, municipal corporation, and health department teams. During the visit, they inspected the arrangements for drinking water supply through tankers, sanitation, and health and treatment facilities in the Bhagirathpura area.

Shivam Verma said that drinking water is currently being supplied to the affected area through tankers. The municipal corporation team is raising awareness among citizens through pamphlets, advising them to boil and filter the water from the tankers before drinking it. Continuous health check-ups are also being conducted for the residents of the affected area. If any citizen shows any symptoms, immediate primary examination is conducted, and necessary treatment is ensured.
