Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Election 2026 Live Updates: Voting for the municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra is in progress. Voting continues at polling stations in 29 municipal corporations, including Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Nagpur.
The Election Commission and local administration have made extensive security arrangements to ensure fair and peaceful elections. Along with police personnel, paramilitary forces have also been deployed. Voters have been urged to participate in large numbers to increase voter turnout.
All eyes are on the election results, which will determine the future political direction. Voting for a total of 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), will take place today from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Following this festival of democracy, the counting of votes and the declaration of election results will begin on Friday, January 16th, at 10:00 AM.
In Mumbai, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar emphasized the importance of voting after casting his vote in the BMC elections. He said, "Voting is very, very important. Just as we say that every drop counts, similarly, if you want a particular outcome, then every person should come out and vote."
Sachin said further, ""I have been an icon of the ECI for quite some time now. The message I am giving is to vote. It is our responsibility. I urge everyone to come out and vote," the cricketing icon said.
Sachin was accompanied by his wife, Anjali, and daughter, Sara, who also exercised their voting rights. After casting their votes, the family proudly displayed their inked fingers.
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar also cast his vote in the BMC elections. He said, "Voting is taking place for the BMC today. As Mumbaikars, the remote control is in our hands today. I request all the people of Mumbai to come out in large numbers and cast their votes. If we want to be the real heroes of Mumbai, we shouldn't just talk, but come out and vote."
