The crowing calls of roosters in the early morning, the bleating of goats, bullock cart rides, folk dances, mud houses, lush green fields, unpaved roads, calves playing in the streets, and the peaceful atmosphere are the defining characteristics of this picturesque village.

In the last three years, more than 10,000 tourists from 15 states of India and 12 other countries have enjoyed the taste, culture, peace, and simplicity of this tourism village in the Tamia development block of Chhindwara, and have experienced a healthy and happy life in the homestays developed by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board

Since January 14, 2023, when the then District Panchayat CEO and current Chhindwara Collector, Harendra Narayan, inaugurated the village's first homestay by cutting the ribbon, the entire village has become self-reliant and has never looked back.

9 homestays are operational

Under the guidance of Collector Harendra Narayan and District Panchayat CEO Agrim Kumar, the tourism village of Sawarwani has emerged as a model village. Currently, 9 homestays are operational, and two more are under construction.

What charms tourists?

Tourists are captivated by the village streets, the greenery of the fields, the loamy fragrance of the soil, adventure activities, the taste of local cuisine, the culture, and the peaceful atmosphere. This is why Sawarwani, the tourism village of Chhindwara, is receiving the highest number of homestay bookings in Madhya Pradesh.

Bustling with tourists

In the last days of December and the beginning of January, all the homestays here were bustling with tourists. Every guest who comes here experiences peace and tranquility amidst nature, far from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, the Chhindwara district administration, and the Village-Way organization have made significant contributions to the development of this village.

A Bumper Gift of Employment

The homestay scheme linked to rural tourism by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board has given Sawarwani a bumper gift of employment. Local women here have sold pure, homemade ghee to tourists and have earned more than 11 lakh rupees. Pulses and vegetables grown in home gardens and fields, along with sorghum and maize flour, have also set sales records.

More than 100 people, from guides and bullock cart drivers to those involved in folk dances, have gained direct and indirect employment through the development of homestays. All the villagers involved in these employment opportunities have become self-reliant in the last three years.

Village has won several awards

Under the guidance of officials from the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Sawarwani village has won numerous awards. The Sawarwani team has been honored by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav in Bhopal. It has received the best award in the tourism sector twice in the Golden Category and was the first to receive the Five Green Leaf Rating for homestays.

A model for homestays

Sawarwani has been chosen as a model for homestays being developed in several villages across the country and has been selected for exposure visits. Sawarwani has also been honored several times at the district level. This is why this new face of rural tourism has succeeded in giving the district a new identity, not only within the state but also among foreigners.
