Iran Unrest 2026: Iran backs down from its decision to execute protesters, what it said abouty Israel?
Iran Unrest 2026: Following threats from President Donald Trump, Iran has backed down from its decision to execute protesters. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Wednesday that Iran has no plans to execute anyone.
The foreign minister said, "There are no plans for executions. Executions are out of the question." On Wednesday, Trump also stated that the killings of protesters in Iran had stopped.
Earlier, the Iranian government had announced swift trials and quick executions for the protesters. Iran was scheduled to execute 26-year-old protester Irfan Sultani on Wednesday. Following this decision, Trump threatened Iran with a strong response. Trump said, "If they do the executions, you'll see something terrible."
Trump has repeatedly threatened the Iranian government that the US will attack if it continues its brutal crackdown on opposition protesters.
Trump said on Wednesday that he likes Iranian opposition leader Reza Pahlavi very much. However, he expressed uncertainty about whether Pahlavi would be able to garner support within Iran and assume leadership.
Trump said, "I don't know how he would fare in his country." He further added that the situation has not yet reached that point. Trump said he doesn't know if Iranians would accept Pahlavi's leadership, but he added, "If they do, I wouldn't have any objection."
'Israel provided weapons to protesters'
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has alleged that Israel "provided weapons to protesters" in his country and "this is what caused hundreds of deaths."
Araghchi made this accusation citing a statement by an Israeli journalist. He also shared a screenshot of the Israeli journalist's statement on X (formerly Twitter). The screenshot reads, "Foreign elements in Iran are arming the protesters, and this is the reason for hundreds of deaths. Anyone is free to guess who we are talking about."
Iran's Foreign Minister said, "Israel has always tried to drag the US into a war to fight on its behalf. But surprisingly, this time they are openly admitting what they have been doing covertly."
He added, "Blood is being spilled on our streets, and Israel is openly saying that it has 'armed the protesters' and that 'this is the reason for hundreds of deaths'."
He continued, "President Trump should now understand where he needs to go to stop the killings."
Anti-government protests have been ongoing in Iran for several days, with thousands feared dead. The protesters have received support from US President Donald Trump.
Trump has repeatedly stated that the US will intervene if the "killings of protesters" in Iran do not stop.
