MP: Death toll from contaminated water in Indore continues to rise; govt claims situation rapidly improving

The death toll from drinking contaminated water in Indore continues to rise. On Monday, the number of deceased rose to 23. The deceased has been identified as Bhagwandas, 64. He had been admitted to the hospital for about 10 days. He was initially admitted to a private hospital.

Hospital sources revealed that when he was brought in, he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was given CPR and then put on a ventilator. He was suffering from multiple organ failure, including gangrene.

Earlier, another deceased was identified as Kamala Bai, 59, wife of Tulsiram. She had been complaining of vomiting and diarrhea since January 5-6. Her condition worsened, and she was admitted to MY Hospital on January 7, where she died during treatment on January 9.

Meanwhile, the number of patients admitted to the ICU is fluctuating. On January 8, there were 10 patients in the ICU. On January 10, this number reached 11. Meanwhile, on January 11, the number of patients admitted to the ICU rose to 13.  For the past several days, three patients have reportedly been on ventilators.

Fear of contaminated water still persists

On the other hand, fear of contaminated water still persists among the people of Bhagirathpura. People are using RO water, borewell water, and bottled water. They are also filtering and boiling the water before use.

Meanwhile, the government has urged the citizens to report any water or sewer-related problems through the designated channels to ensure timely and effective action. Indore Urban Development and Housing Commissioner Sanket Bhondwe stated that a total of 1176 water leaks had been repaired by Sunday, January 11, and 7619 water samples have been tested so far.

The government has also claimed that the situation is rapidly improving after the waterborne disease outbreak in the Bhagirathpura area of ​​Indore. To take stock of the situation on the ground, Additional Chief Secretaries Mr. Neeraj Mandloi and Mr. Anupam Rajan visited the area this morning along with officials from the district administration, municipal corporation, health department, and other concerned departments.
